ABOUT THE GAME

In a world without its colors, stories are told about a time when life was bright and radiant, when the sunlight was warm and nature was strong. While Iris is still young and their world has always been dull and faded, these stories inspire them to dream of a better future. Could these dreams be a sign of change?

Join Iris as they adventure through the unknown in search of the six lost crystals to make the world colorful once again! A 3D platformer about seeing the world in a new way and making a change.

THE PROLOGUE (DEMO)

Iris wakes up in a mysterious place, surrounded by nothingness. They can feel something calling. As a path unfolds ahead, an unlikely friend will guide the way forward. What brought you here and what’s its purpose?

Play the demo now and experience the first chapter of this story!

DEMO FEATURES

IRIS: A Colorful Dream - The Prologue is a game on it's own with a story that takes place before the events we intend to explore in the full game. We developed it as a way to explore our ideas and hone our skills before diving into the real thing.

In it you'll get to know our character, Iris, and explore little pieces of a world unknown to both of you. This adventure includes hints and peeks at what is to come on Iris' big adventure.

The demo is being released in two parts. The first chapter is available now and contains the first half of this journey. The second chapter will be available in a few months, follow us to be notified when it's out!

Here are some of the features contained in the first chapter demo:

  • Platforming: Run, jump, dash, wall run and slide your way through the levels.
  • Explore three beautiful areas, each containing unique biomes and obstacles.
  • Use color beams to reveal hidden objects and paths in the world!
  • A mysterious puzzle room guarding one of the crystals!
  • Collect crystal shards throughout the game! Can you find them all?
  • A photo mode with lots of options to take beautiful screenshots. Make sure to share your captures with us through Twitter or in our Discord server!
  • Get to know Iris and their BFF (butterfly friend) better before the release of the full game.

We'd like to thank everyone who's been supporting our work so far, and that includes everyone in our community, from ou friends (who we have bothered to play our game over and over again), our amazing Discord community and our playtesters (without their help we wouldn't have been able to find so many bugs and issues on the demo, not to mention some really good suggestions about mechanics and polishing that made the demo so much better) and of course our Patreon supporters (who have been allowing us to focus on our work on the game and develop exciting new content for them). Thank you so much to everyone involved and we hope to have all of you around for the rest of this exciting journey!

FULL GAME

(Still in development!)

We have big plans for IRIS. This is our first big project and we're very passionate about this character and their world, so here are a few things we intend to develop for the full game:

  • A deep storyline about overcoming your insecurities and reconnecting with the crystals to change the world!
  • Six full levels, each containing many collectibles, platforming obstacles, enemies and puzzles.
  • A unique temple at the end of each level featuring platforming and puzzles specific to that biome.
  • An exciting boss battle at the end of each temple. Beat the challenge to reconnect with a new crystal and discover a different color!
  • Six different power ups from each of the crystals, use them to overcome specific puzzles and obstacles.
  • A large central area, featuring a city with multiple unlockable areas and many interesting characters to interact with.
  • Many side quests throughout the game, challenging you to explore the story even deeper and learn more about the world.

THE DEVS

Hi! We’re QUARTZO, a Brazilian indie game studio run by Rubens and Vini, a couple of game devs with a passion for creativity. We started developing games around 2017 and since then our dream was to open our own game studio one day. Then in 2020 we started working on IRIS, a project that’s very special to us, and we hope with it’s release we'll be able to continue making games for life!

PATREON

We still have a long way to go before we can finish the game, but to make sure we can do it as soon as possible, we need your help! We want to dedicate ourselves exclusively to IRIS, but we can't make that a reality without the support from our patrons.

By supporting us, you earn lots of rewards, from exclusive access to our Patreon-only posts and your name on the game's credits,  all the way to awesome prints and stickers!

Please check our Patreon page and consider becoming a member, we'd really appreciate having your support!

Can you please make a Mac version? I can't play it on my laptop because it's old so the game runs really slow.

The game seemed to be working fine at first, but the longer I keep it on the worse the fps gets. (Quitting the program and restarting doesn't help.) I'm on Windows 11 and my processor is "Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8565U CPU @ 1.80GHz 1.99 GHz". Any idea how I can fix this?Great game so far btw. Iris is very cute. :]

I loved it. It's calming, peaceful, and a little cute. Good game.

this game not for my computer

Arch Linux

Intel i3-4150 (4) @ 3.500GHz

Intel 4th Generation Core Processor Family

Memory: 3792MiB

idk y but when i try to play the game on linux, it was all a very laggy until I even had to change the settings just to get it to a better FPS. When i got to the orange crystal area, my inputs just stop working except for my mouse for some reason. Idk y, either its cuz of the game, the OS or my laptop thats making it like this. But the game itself looks pretty good coming from my gameplay n the reviews

Hey! First of all, thank you so much for playing! We're glad you enjoyed the demo. We're sorry about the performance issues, we haven't had much opportunity to debug the game on Linux, that's something we definitely need to improve. I'll take note of your feedback (input issues etc) and we'll keep a look for these problems so we can fix them in the future. Again, thank you so much for playing! πŸ˜„

Hello there, I've tried the game on another device it runs perfectly fine, but when I try it on my own laptop, it fails to run (not responding and black screen). I am certainly sure that they're both similar in specs.

Is there anything I can do to fix this? Thank you. (Good game btw)

I love this Game! *-*

Love this game and how cute it all is, I understand this is just a demo but its already shaping up to be an awesome game, looking forward to more from you guys

Thank you so much! We're really happy to know you enjoyed it! πŸ₯°

R.I.P. random sand crawler, you will be rememberedn't.

Hey there! Got really interested in this game after watching a video by CodingKaiju and decided to try it out. A very great game if not for the terrible FPS, at least on Linux.

Hope I'll be able to guy this game once it comes out.

Hey! Thank you for playing! The game has some pretty bad performance issues at the moment, we're working on a patch to fix this that should come out in the next few days.  Hope you give it another try later when the second chapter of the demo comes out! πŸ˜„
Also, didn't know about that video until now!!! Thanks for letting us know!

(+1)

> we're working on a patch to fix

Nice to know! By the way, I don't know if you guys intended it but the Linux release is a debug release.

(+1)

Yeah, it is on purpose because otherwise the game always crashed on Linux 😞 We will probably keep it like that for the demo, but once we get to work on the full game we'll look for a fix for that as well!

Wow, thank you so much!!! πŸ’—πŸ§‘πŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ’œ

I love this! It feels like some sort of Netflix show with the contrasting colors and the separate framerates for the environment and the characters.

(+2)

Thank you! Really happy you liked it! And now I look forward to our deal with Netflix for an animated series about Iris... hahahah

Really loved the demo so far. A funny fact is that I had a similar idea a long time ago and red would also be the first color to appear, red really has its charm, doesn't it? haha

In spite of the atmosphere a bit focused on mystery, the dialogues make the game very friendly and positive, great balance.

A small problem I found (and which actually isn't a development bug but the way godot identifies the gamepad) both in the right stick axis and in the action buttons some were identified and some weren't. This can happen to any player who tests the game with a generic controller, which often comes with the numbering changed for each key. But in case it is a recurring problem in the future, it is very easy to solve by creating a screen to remap the gamepad buttons.

I'm really looking forward to chapter 2! Keep up the good work! :)

Thank you so much for playing! We're really glad you enjoyed it! And yeah, I love this color for the first level, specially because it contrasts really well with the grey scale world!

Also thank you so much for the feedback! It's something we hadn't seen in playtests, I think, and we'll certainly keep an eye on from now. We actually plan on making key remapping a feature in the full game, it's not something we'll be able to work on for the demo, though. Maybe in a later update!

We can't wait for you to play the second chapter, we're working on it right now and it should be out in a few months. Hope you like it as well!

Oh, and glad to know you haven't moved forward with your project, otherwise we'd have to sue you!!! I'm kidding, of course! hahaha

Hii, I've made a video about the game and wanted to share some feedback about it, hopefully it is useful to you ^^

-The concept of the game is really good and interesting.

-The gameplay mechanics and the aproach taken to the puzzle design is really original and well integrated with the level design.

-The visual style is really awesome and beautiful, it gives the player a really enjoyable gameplay experience.

-The game has just two BIG problems, (1) the jumping/ dashing mechanics should be polished as they actually feel hard to control maybe as a result of being implemented on the same button, (2) the game is very very unoptimized but in a strange way as it seems to have problems especially when loading parts of the levels (maybe it is related to the way the game is managing the RAM or the acces to the memory in general).

In conclusion, the idea is great and I hope you keep working on it. Hopefully this is useful for the development :D, also if you could subscribe that would help me a lot :)

Regards

Hi! Thank you so much for playing and we're so happy you enjoyed it! Just watched your video and it was a really nice run. Did you go all the way to the end? The third level is one of my favorites!

About the issues you mentioned, we've tried some changes to the jump/dash, but we couldn't find an alternative that felt natural and integrated well with the rest of the mechanics, so we might need to experiment more in the future.
And yeah, unfortunately we weren't able to optimize the demo as much as we hoped for before the release. We're trying some stuff and should have a new patch for that in hopefully a week or so.

Thank you for the feedback, it's always really helpful! And we hope to see you playing again once we release the second chapter of the prologue! πŸ₯°

Hiii, you are welcome ^^. If you are planning on releasing a full version on steam or anything contactme through "navimaiden00@gmail.com" and send me a key if it is a paid game, I'll be glad to make a walkthrough about it when completed and optimized better ^^

Regards

The full version of the game is still in very early development. The demo is a separate game that works as a prologue to the story of the full game. But we will release the second chapter of the demo in a few months and it will be on steam for free! We'll make sure to contact you then! πŸ₯°

Awesome, good luck with the development ^^

(+2)

So glad you are using Godot Engine!!!

(+1)

We love the engine and have been using it since we started making games, so it was only natural we'd make our first big project in it as well! πŸ˜„

(+2)

Amazing mechanics. Love the visuals and nice gameplay.

Thank you so much! πŸ’—πŸ§‘πŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ’œ

(1 edit) (+3)

How'd yall like working in Godot's 3D?  Do you have experience working in Unity/UE to compare it to?

(+1)

Hi! We have very limited experience in other engines, so we can't really make that comparison. But we really enjoy working with 3D in Godot. There are some issues and limitations, but we can mostly work around them and we hope the engine keeps growing and getting better!

(+1)

I am curious to know what are some limitations you guys encountered while using Godot. I am still starting out and plan to make a 3D game in Godot (hopefully). I love using Godot β•°(Β°β–½Β°)β•―

Cool game btw ;)

(+1)

Hi! Currently we're having some issues with dynamically loading parts of the map, for example. We're working on some optimizations, but we know that a lot of these problems are being solved in Godot 4, so if you can wait for its release you'll have less things to worry! πŸ˜…
We don't know if we'll end up making the switch to the new version, as it would break a lot of stuff, but we think we can work around most of these issues.

(Important thing to note is I'm not the programmer, so I can't give you many details hahah You can join our Discord and talk to him if you want, though!)

(+2)

Thank you anyways ;)

(+3)

Amazing game dev great mechanics and art so excited for the full game

Thank you so much! We're really glad you liked it!
